The winter has caused a slow down for Sloan Construction Columbia’s work on I-77. The project on the Interstate 77 Widening and Rehabilitation Project in Richland County is to improve safety, rehabilitate the aging interstate, bridges, and reduce traffic congestion. All of the I-77 bridges within this area will also be widened toward the median to support the new lanes.
The project also includes the rehabilitation of the existing I-77 Southbound pavement from just north of Killian Road to Blythewood Road. This work will consist of repairing and then overlaying the concrete pavement new asphalt. The $88 million design-build contract was awarded to Archer Western (subcontractor) that began in June 2016, and is estimated to be complete in July 2018.
