Duncan: DOT Weight Station – Gaston County

Sloan Construction was awarded a contract to build a new weigh station for the North Carolina Department of Transportation in Gaston County just across the North Carolina/South Carolina state line in April of 2014. The new weigh station will replace the existing I-85 north bound weigh station near mile marker 27 with a larger modern facility and should ease traffic congestion in that area. The $19 Million project started last summer and has a completion date of November 2016. Sloan construction will perform the asphalt paving project and keeps a small crew led by Jeffery Bishop on site to manage erosion control and other miscellaneous items of work that were not subcontracted. The project consists of asphalt paving, concrete paving, static scales and scale house, weigh in motion components, and a truck inspection building. Major quantities include 35,000 tons of hot mix asphalt, 400,000 cubic yards of excavation, 60,000 square yards of stabilization, and 41,000 square yards of concrete paving. Asphalt paving is scheduled to begin in June of 2015.
