The Hwy 56 widening project consists of 4.877 miles of widening and reconstruction on SR 56 (Mike Padgett Hwy) beginning at Bennock Mill Rd. (CR 17) and extending to Old Waynesboro Rd. (CR 1516). The pro-ject also includes construction of four bridges and approaches. This pro-ject contains 170,000 TNS of GABC, 124,647 TNS of HMA, 140,000 cubic yard of excavation, and 15,000 LF of storm drainage. Project contains three stages and includes full relocation of all existing utilities. The project is 34% complete with an expected completion date of August 2016.
Activities performed during May: Foremen Phillip Bertsch and Bernard Williams set up over 25,000 sy of subgrade, placed 17,000 TNs of GABC, and laid over 900 LF of storm drainage. Other activities included erosion control, traffic control, sub and utility support. Utility relocation is our critical activity at this stage of the project with all underground and overhead utilities relocating out of conflict with construction. Utility relocation is roughly 70-80% percent complete. Subcontract work included traffic signal progress and storm drain structures.
